1927 JUDGE Magazine — “Popular Mechanics Number” (March 12, 1927) — satirical cartoons, SJ Perelman, George Jean Nathan, Life Savers ad — 1920s humor & automobilia cover
Original March 12, 1927 issue of JUDGE, the long-running satirical weekly. This special “Popular Mechanics Number—Written So You Can’t Understand It” is packed with 1920s tech gags and cartoons. Wonderful cover (signed “Forbell”) shows a Rube-Goldberg–style automobile powered by an absurd Ferris-wheel apparatus; back cover features the classic Life Savers “Clove” ad among other period advertising. Inside are humor pieces and cartoons including “The Handy Girl Around the House (How to Make a Sugar Papa)” signed Perelman, “The Mechanics of Censorship” by George Jean Nathan, “Novelties of the Month,” automobilia cartoons, and more. A bright, display-worthy survivor from the flapper era.
