Henry David Thoreau Walden Heritage Press Illustrated Thomas Nason – Slipcase & Sandglass.
Attractive Heritage Press edition of Henry David Thoreau’s Walden; or, Life in the Woods, illustrated with wood engravings by Thomas W. Nason.
Published by The Heritage Press, New York, with copyright 1939 for the special contents of this edition. The book was designed by Carl Purington Rollins and features Nason’s detailed wood engravings throughout.
This copy is especially desirable because it retains both its original Heritage Press slipcase and original Heritage Club Sandglass, Number III:30. The Sandglass provides background on Thoreau, Walden, and the production of this Heritage edition.
Included:
- Walden; or, Life in the Woods by Henry David Thoreau
- Thomas W. Nason wood engravings
- Illustrated hardcover binding with cloth spine
- Original Heritage Press slipcase
- Original Heritage Club Sandglass No. III:30

Condition:
The book remains in good vintage condition with an attractive illustrated binding. There is age-related toning, spotting/foxing to the page edges and some discoloration and wear to the cloth spine. Interior pages shown remain generally clean.
The Sandglass has age toning and scattered spotting/foxing. The original slipcase shows considerably more wear, including rubbing, discoloration and deterioration/splitting along the upper opening. Please review all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
A handsome illustrated edition of one of the foundational works of American literature, made more complete by the survival of its original Heritage Press slipcase and Sandglass.
