Published shortly after Garcia's death on August 9, 1995, the cover features a large portrait of Garcia with the headline:

Inside is the feature “Requiem for the Dead: Jerry Garcia’s Strange Trip” by David Gates, beginning on page 46, examining Garcia, the Grateful Dead and the band's extraordinary following.
