The striking Jack Webb cover portrait was created by noted TIME cover artist Boris Chaliapin. Webb is pictured against a stylized television-production background with the classic cover caption:
“My name’s Friday. I’m a cop.”
Published during the height of Dragnet's original popularity, this issue includes TIME's feature on Webb, “Jack, Be Nimble!” A contemporary broadcasting publication reported that Dragnet was then outranked only by I Love Lucy in major national television ratings.
The back cover is also highly collectible, featuring a colorful full-page 1954 Coca-Cola advertisement with singer and television personality Eddie Fisher bowling, accompanied by a large classic Coke bottle and the slogan “There’s this about Coke...”
