1943 WWII Christmas V-Mail – Lt. Dave Breger Cartoon – Somewhere in Britain – Army Censored – Framed.
Original World War II U.S. Army V-Mail Christmas correspondence dated December 25, 1943, featuring a humorous wartime cartoon by Lt. Dave Breger, creator of the well-known Private Breger cartoons.
The printed design depicts an American serviceman holding a heavily censored Christmas message and is headed:
“Somewhere in Britain – December 25, 1943.”
This is an actually used wartime V-Mail, retaining the original handwritten addressing, greeting and military postal markings. It was sent to Mr. & Mrs. Robert A. Donnelly of Mt. Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, by an American serviceman stationed in Britain and bears Army Examiner censor stamp No. 26181.
The handwritten Christmas greeting is signed “Bucky.”
The Breger illustration is part of the original printed V-Mail design. The handwritten message, addresses, signatures and military processing are original to this individual 1943 example.
Presented under glass in an older dark wood frame measuring approximately 5 3/4" wide x 7" high.
Condition: Original vintage condition with age toning, scattered spotting/soiling and normal wear to the paper. The older wooden frame shows scratches, small losses and other age-related wear. Please see photographs for complete condition.
