1865 The Ingoldsby Legends — Illustrated Victorian Ghost Stories & Folklore, Leather Binding

Original 1865 London edition of The Ingoldsby Legends; or, Mirth and Marvels, published by Richard Bentley, with illustrations by George Cruikshank, John Leech, and John Tenniel.

Thomas Ingoldsby—the literary pseudonym of Richard Harris Barham—blends supernatural folklore with comic storytelling in this collection of verse and prose. Ghosts, witches, devils, and curious legends appear throughout, accompanied by detailed Victorian illustrations.

This copy has a brown leather spine and corners over textured boards, gilt spine lettering, and gilt page edges. A collectible example of nineteenth-century illustrated literature with particular appeal to readers of ghost stories and folklore.

Condition: Complete, with all pages attached and a good, secure binding. Substantial rubbing and surface wear to the leather, with wear to the boards and corners. Interior pages show toning, scattered foxing, and visible water staining along the margins of several leaves. Pencil writing appears on a front blank leaf.
